Grain export from Russia will go down to 2.3 – 2.4 mln tons in February

Grain export from Russia may go down to 2.3 – 2.4 mln tons in February 2017 compared with 2.75 mln tons in Fabruary 2016, RusAgroTrans predicts. Preliminary data shows export was 2.45 mln tons, but levels are expected to drop.

Wheat export was 1.7 – 1.85 mln tons (1.85), barley export reached 100 – 140,000 tons (233,000) while corn export was 450,000 tons (642,000). Corn export went down following decreased demand from Asia.

Grain export from Russia reached a record monthly level in January – 2.45 mln tons compared with 1.925 mln tons in January 2016. Lower export level is expected in February compared with the previous year as a result of the strong ruble and high domestic grain prices.  Grain export to Egypt reach 560,000 tons in January, which is 2.2 times more than January 2016.

Grain export from Russia will be 36 mln tons throughout 2016 - 2017 compared with 34 mln tons in 2015 – 2016. The previous export estimation from August 2016 was 37 mln tons. Wheat export will be 27.9 mln tons (24.8 mln tons during 2015 – 2016 MY), barley export will reach 2.6 mln tons (4.29) and corn export will be approximately 5 mln tons (4.67).

Between the start of January and January 25, 2017 Egypt with over 560,000 tons, Vietnam with 172,000 tons and Libya with 122,000 tons have been the biggest grain buyers.

The Middle East countries remain the main Russian grain buyers. Preliminary reports show that 8.6 mln tons of grain were exported from Russia to the Middle East in the first seven months of the season, which is 34% of the whole export, including wheat 4.3 mln tons (26%), corn 1.2 mln tons (44%) and barley 1.5 mln tons (83%). Turkey is the biggest buyer with 3.7 mln tons of grain, including wheat 1.8 mln tons, wheat bran 402,000 tons, corn 310,000 tons and barley 48,000 tons. Iran ranks second with 1.1 mln tons of grain including wheat 247,000 tons, corn 556,000 tons and barley 257,000 tons. Saudi Arabia comes third with 927,000 tons of barley. Lebanon follows with 884,000 tons of grain ahead of Yemen with 628,000 tons of grain, Israel with 459,000 tons of grain and the UAE with 323,000 tons of grain. Syria bought 48,000 tons of barley and Jordan bought 12,500 tons of corn.
