FAS USDA: Wheat export from Canada will drop by 5% despite the record yield

FAS USDA projects that wheat export from Canada will drop by 5% in the current season compared with last year despite the record yield.

Wheat yield in the country is 31.7 mln tons in 2016 - 2017 (+15% compared with last year). Wheat areas decreased by 7%, but the higher yield makes up for that.

Despite the high yield, export will drop by 5% to 21 mln tons. The decrease is due the low wheat beginning stocks in Canada and the poorer yield quality.

Barley yield has increased by 7% to 8.78 mln tons thanks to the record production. Barley areas decreased by 6% compared with the previous year. Barley export has grown by 40% compared with 2015 – 2016г up to 1.5 mln tons.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada reported that rapeseed yield in Canada will grow by 76,000 tons in 2017 - 2018 to 18.5 mln tons. The result will be alomost as high as the record level of 18.6 mln tons in 2013 - 2014. Rapeseed areas have grown by 2.58 mln decares to 85 mln decares.
