Wheat Import In India Has Jumped Over 5 Mln Tons Since The Start Of Season

India has bought 5.1 – 5.2 mln tons of wheat since the start of the current season, which is a peak level for the past 10 years.

Over 1 mln tons of wheat were imported in the country in January 2017 alone and import has reached 400,000 tons since the beginning of February.

Australia dn Ukraine were the main suppliers. Ukrainian wheat is currently trading at 210 – 212 USD/ton C&F while the Australian is at 215 – 220 USD/ton C&F. The Premium class wheat is at 235 – 240 USD/ton C&F.

Purchases will go down to 200 – 300,000 tons of wheat in the next months.
