FAS USDA: Japan To Reduce Corn Consumption And Import

FAS USDA projected a decline in corn consumption and import in Japan. The country uses corn as the main fodder production grain.

Following the reduced number of cattle in the country, fodder production has remained lower than 24 mln tons since 2013 – 2014. The number of farm animals will decrease slightly in 2016 – 2017 which will keep fodder production steady.

Domestic corn consumption in 2016 – 2017 will be 15.2 mln tons – no change versus last season. It will decrease to 15.1 mln tons in 2017 – 2018. Corn import will be 15.1 mln tons in the current season compared with the estimated 15 mln tons in 2017 – 2018.
