FAS USDA Estimates Decline In Grain Production And Export From Serbia

In the new season, grain production and export in Serbia will decline versus this season's high index, according to a forecast by FAS USDA.

In 2016 – 2017, wheat yield was 3 mln tons – the highest index for the past 25 years. Corn yield is 7.6 mln tons - a new all-time record.

Wheat export potential in the current season is 1.5 mln tons. Over the period between July 2016 and February 2017, 940,000 tons of wheat were exported from Serbia – mainly to neighbouring and EU countries.

Corn export potential is 2.8 mln tons, which ranks the country as a top 10 corn exporter worldwide. Over the period between October 2016 and February 2017, 1.1 mln tons of corn were exported from Serbia.

In 2017 – 2018, wheat yield in Serbia will drop to 2.43 mln tons while corn yield will go down to 7 mln tons. Export will respectively drop to 1.05 mln tons of wheat and 2.6 mln tons of corn.
