FAS USDA: Argentina will raise the export of wheat and corn in the new season, starting in December

Areas under wheat cultivation whose sowing begins in May, will reach their highest level from 2008 - 2009. Up to now - 5.2 mln. ha (4.7 mln. ha in the current year). Yields will be below the current year level. Wheat crop will reach 16.65 mln. tonnes (16.0).

Domestic consumption of wheat will increase to 6.0 mln. tonnes (5.9).

The export potential of wheat increases to 10.5 mln. tonnes (10.2), the highest level from 2011-2012. until now.

In 2016 Vietnam, Thailand and Bangladesh line up among the major buyers of wheat from Argentina besides Brazil.

Corn production in 2017 - 2018 (March 2018 - February 2019) will rise to a record high of 39 mln. tonnes. In the current year the crop will amount to  38.5 mln. tonnes.

Consumption of corn will increase to 11.2 mln. tonnes (10.7), including for bioethanol 1.2 mln. tonnes of corn.

Corn export from Argentina will reach 26.5 mln. tonnes In the current season, which ranks it second in the world after the US. In the new season the export will amount to 28 mln. tonnes. Major buyers are the countries of the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa.

According to INDEC, in March 2017, Argentina exported 72 000 tonnes of soybean (66 000 tonnes for China) given 34 000 tonnes in March 2016. Deliveries of Argentinean soybean oil in the month reached 564 000 tonnes (508 000), including India 363 000 tonnes (251 000). Export of soybean meal reached 2.4 mln. tonnes (2.24), incl. for the EU 792 00 tonnes (634 000), Indonesia 330 000 tonnes (201 000) and Algeria 175 000 tonnes (75 000).
