Sowing pace of corn and wheat in the US is above expectations

Last week US farmers increased sharply the pace of corn and wheat sowing, due to the good meteorological conditions

So the average five-year levels of sowing were reached, according to USDA.

As of May 14th, 2017, corn sowing in the US is completed on 71% of the planned areas with market expectations of 65%, which is 1% more than the average for the past five years. Last year, 73% of the areas were sown.

Spring wheat has been sown on 78% of the planned area, given 87% for the previous year and 73% on average over the past five years.

The condition of winter wheat crops continues to deteriorate. 51% of the areas (-2% for the week), are in good and excellent condition, which is 11% less than last year.
