Grain Highlights

According to latest data of USDA, As of 01.10.2017 sowing of winter wheat in the US lags behind schedule. Currently 36% of the planned areas are sown at 41% a year earlier at 43% at an average for the last 5 years.

Wheat

- Japan announced a tender for the purchase of 106,045 tonnes of wheat from the United States, Canada and Australia for shipment from 21.11 to 20.12.2017.

- Ethiopia announced a tender for the purchase of 400,000 tonnes of wheat of optional origin.

- On 06.10.201. the Philippines purchased 165,000 tonnes of wheat for  December 2017 - February 2018 shipment. The price of the deals is 212 - 214 USD / mt and the origin is from the Black Sea region.

- FranceAgrimer once again raises its forecast for French wheat crop to 37.9 million tonnes, compared to 37.8 million tonnes in the September forecast. The result is 37.7% more than 2016 and is the third highest level in history.

Grain

- Over the past two weeks, a group of South Korean feed producers KFA, Feed Leaders' Committee and Major Feedmill Groupca purchased around 320,000 tonnes of US and Latin American corn. Price is within the range of 184.95 - 187.49 USD / mt, C & F.

- According to forecast of the Institute of Agrarian Economics in the US state of Missouri, farmers in the United States will expand the areas under corn cultivation. This could happen with new +2.3 million acres compared to 2017 to 93.2 million acres. So the crop could reach the second largest in history - 372.1 million tonnes.

- According to the latest forecast by FranceAgrimer, in 2017, corn crop in France will be 13 million tonnes at 12.75 million tonnes in the previous forecast. The result is 11.4% more than the previous year. The average yield will be 9.32 mt / ha (8.41 mt / ha in 2016).

- According to latest USDA data, as of 01.10.2017. corn harvest in the US is completed on 17% of the areas (23% last year and 26% on average over the past five years).

 

OIl crops and vegetable oils

- During the period January - September 2017 1.49 million tonnes of rapeseed worth $605.82 million were exported from Ukiraine. In September alone, export reached 700,810 tonnes (+ 35.61% more than in August 2017). The main buyers were Germany 312,160 tonnes, the Netherlands 307,110 tonnes and Belgium 286,460 tonnes. In 2016 - 2017. the export of rapeseed from Ukraine reached 993,970 tonnes at 1,434 million tonnes in 2015-2016.

- According to forecast of the Institute of Agrarian Economics in the US state of Missouri, farmers in the US will reduce soybean areas by 2.5 million acres compared to 2017 to 86 million acres. So the soybean crop will reach 110.98 million tonnes.

- According to Reuters, at the end of September, Malaysian palm oil stocks are up 3.2% from the previous year to 2 million tonnes, and this is the highest level from February 2016 until now. The production  increases by 1.5% per month to 1.84 million tonnes - the maximum level from October 2015 until now. Export grew 7.8% to 1.6 million tonnes in the month.

- According to Reuters, soybean crop in Brazil in 2017-2018. will reach 109.39 million tonnes in a previous estimate of 110.6 million tonnes and a result of the previous season of 114.08 million tonnes. Areas under cultivation are 34.77 million hectares (34.7).

- According to Reuters, in August Indonesia's palm oil production reaches 3.6 million tonnes at 3.5 million tonnes in July and is the highest monthly level since January 2015 to date. Export of the product reached 2.7 million tonnes at 1.74 million tonnes in August 2016. In August, palm oil consumption in Indonesia reached 890,000 tonnes (845,000 tonnes in July), and stocks grew to 2.6 million tonnes (2.4).

- According to FranceAgrimer's latest forecast, in 2017, the rapeseed crop in France will be 5.5 million tonnes, up 16.3% from the previous year and close to the 2009 record - 5.6 million tonnes.

- According to the latest USDA data, as of 01.10.2017 US 22% of the planned areas  (24% a year earlier and 26% on average over the past five years) are sown with soybean in the US.
