Grain Highlights

As of October 11, 2017 in Russia, harvest is completed on 3.0 million ha under sunflower cultivation(39.1%), 5.3 million tonnes are harvested at average yield of 1.73 mt/ha (1.69).

Wheat

- As of October 11, 2017 in Russia, 26.6 million ha under wheat cultivation were harvested (96.5%), 86.5 million tonnes of wheat were harvested at average yield of 3.24 mt/ ha (2.79).

- Tunisia announced a tender for the purchase of 75,000 tonnes of hard wheat and 50,000 tonnes of feed barley of optional origin and for December 2017 - January 2018 shipment.

- FranceAgriMer raised its forecast for French soft wheat export in 2017-2018. by 1.1% to 18.362 million tonnes, up 61.9% from the previous year, but 11% less than the record in 2015-2016. Export to EU countries grew by 0.2 million tonnes to 8.052 million tonnes (+ 28.6% and + 3.2%) - a new record for the country. Export of soft wheat to third countries remain unchanged compared to the September forecast (+ 200% and -19.2%).

- According to USDA, as of October 8, 2017. US winter wheat sowing is completed on 48% of the planned areas at 57% last year and 58% on average over the past five years.

- On October 10, 2017. Egypt's GASC purchased 170,000 tonnes of Russian wheat for  November 20 to 30 shipment, as follows

     55,000 tonnes  at  price of FOB 197.97 USD / mt + FRT 15.69 USD / mt, a total of 213.66 USD / mt, C & F.

     60,000 tonnes at FOB price of 200.99 USD / mt + FRT 14.69 USD / mt, a total of 215.68 USD / mt, C & F.

     55.000 tonnes of Russian wheat at price of FOB 201.89 USD / mt + FRT 14.69 USD / mt, a total of 216.58 USD / mt, C & F.

 

Grain

- FranceAgriMer lowered its forecast for France's export of feed barley in 2017-2018 by 175,000 tonnes givent the September forecast to 6,615 million tonnes. Still, this is 25.3% more than the previous season. Export to EU countries grew by 25,000 tonnes to 3.3 million tonnes (+ 13.5%). Export to third countries decreased by 200,000 tonnes to 3.3 million tonnes (+ 40%).

- In 2017. export of food goods from Russia will reach $20 billion according to government forecasts. Over the past 10 years, this export increased by + 350% from $ 5 billion to $ 17 billion.

- According to USDA, as of October 8, 2017. in the US harvest of corn is completed on 22% of the areas (33% and 37%).

- The European Commission lowered by 50% the import duty on corn, sorghum and rye to 5.61 EUR / mt. The decrease is made in connection with the rules following the dynamics of the EUR / USD exchange rate.

- According to Conab's forecast, the grain crop in Brazil in 2017-2018 will decrease by 6% from 2016 - 2017 to 224.1 - 228.2 million tonnes at 238.5 million tonnes a year earlier.

- As of October 11, 2017, harvest is completed on 43.5 million hectares in Russia, or 92.4% of the areas. 129.9 million tonnes of grain gross weight were harvested at average yield of 2.99 mt/ ha (2.62). 1.3 million decares under corn cultivation were harvested (43.7%), 6.0 million tonnes of corn are harvested at average yield of 4.71 mt/ ha (5.4). 7.6 million hectares under barley cultivation (95.5%) are harvested, 21.3 million tonnes of barley were harvested at average yield of 2.8 mt/ ha (2.35).

 

Oil crops and vegetable oils

- In 2017 - 2018 soybean crop in Ukraine will drop by 400,000 tonnes from the previous year to 3.9 million tonnes. The average soybean yield will be 1.96 mt/ ha at 2.31 mt/ ha in 2016. Until October 10, 2017. 2.3 million tonnes of soybean were harvested.

- In 2017 - 2018 a record amount of vegetable oil was exported from Russia - 2.9 million tonnes. It is expected by 2025 the export to reach 5.4 million tonnes or 15% of the global export. In 2025 - 2026. the global trade of liquid vegetable oils (excluding tropical) will be 36 million tonnes, incl. soybean oil 42%, sunflower oil 41%, rapeseed oil 15% and other oils 3% .
