Grain Highlights

During the period November - December , 5 million tonnes of soybean will be exported from Brazil to China, double as much as last year's 2.49 million tonnes.

Wheat

 - The government of Pakistan planned to permit export of up to 2 million tonnes of wheat. An export subsidy amounting to USD 120-170 per tonne will be granted for this quantity.

- Iraq purchased 450,000 tonnes of hard red wheat from the US for shipment in the next 3 months.

- The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture drafted a document for the phytosanitary authorities at the seaports. The document details the procedures and requirements that are to be met by wheat that is imported into the country, acceptance or refusal procedures.

- The tender for the purchase of 100,000 tonnes of wheat announced by Jordan, was not held  due to high requirements for grain quality and way of payment.

- According to USDA, in its October report, in 2017/18. grain crop in the United States will be 423.8 million tonnes at 465.9 million tonnes in 2016/17. US grain stocks will be 88.6 million tonnes at 94.3 million tonnes at the end of the last season and 74.8 million tonnes in 2015/16.

- According to forecast by the Ministry of Agriculture of Canada, wheat crop in the country in 2017/18 will be 27 million tonnes, initial stocks - 6.8 million tonnes, export - 20.8 million tonnes, domestic consumption - 8.3 million tonnes.

- In 2017/18 Nigeria will use 4.66 million tonnes of wheat, which is 15% more than in 2016/17. Import of wheat will be 5 million tonnes (4.97).

  

 

Grain

- 47.5% of the Russian grain is exported to foreign markets through the deep sea ports of the Black Sea - Novorossiysk, Tuyanga, Taman. From the shallow waters of the Azov Sea and the Black Sea, 31.5% of the Russian grain is exported.

- According to data of the Ministry of Agricultire of Ukraine, as of November 2, 2017, 6,841 million hectares in the country are sown with grains (95% of the plan), incl. wheat - 5.893 million hectares (96%), barley - 804,000 hectares (86%), rye - 145,000 hectares (92%),  winter rape - 855,000 hectares (111%) .

- As of November 2, 2017. in Ukraine, 2.863 million hectares of corn are harvested (63% of the area). 13.955 million tonnes of corn were harvested at average yield of 4.87 mt/ ha.

- As of November 3, 2017, in Russia, 45.3 million hectares under grain crops cultivation were harvested (96.4% of the area), 135.8 million tonnes of grain were harvested at average yield of 3 mt/ hectare (2.67 mt/ ha a year earlier). Wheat is harvested on 27.3 million hectares (99%), 87.9 million tonnes of wheat are harvested at average yield of 3.22 mt/ ha(2.79). 7.7 million hectares under barley cultivation are (97.5%) harvested, 21.7 million tonnes of barley are harvested at average yield of 2.81 mt/ ha (2.35). Corn is harvested on 1.8 million hectares (62.5%), 8.9 million tonnes of corn are harvested at average yield of 4.89 mt/ ha (5.61).

 

Oil crops and vegetable oils

- According to preliminary data of Brazil's Statistical Office, in October 2017, the country exported 3.87 million tonnes of soybean, which is 124% more than the same month of the previous year and 27.7% less than in September. From the beginning of the year, soybean export from Brazil reached 77.1 million tonnes, worth $29.1 billion, compared to 64.2 million tonnes ($ 24.1 billion a year earlier). Export of Brazilian soybean meal in October grew by 76% to 1.27 million tonnes and soybean oil reached 115,600 tonnes.

- In October, palm oil export from Malaysia grew by 2.46% to 1.406.700 tonnes from 1,373,000 tonnes in September. The figure is by 9% higher than the previous year. Export to North and South America increased by 48% to 103,400 tonnes, to Asia and Oceania by 32% to 273,400 tonnes -  a 5 months high, to Africa + 24% to 179,300 tonnes - 2 years high . A large volume of oil is purchased by India - 314,200 tonnes (+ 20%). China cuts purchases by 21% to 254,230 tonnes and Near and Middle East countries by 70% to 23,400 tonnes.

- During the period November - December 5 million tonnes of soybean will be exported from Brazil to China, double as much as last year’s - 2.49 million tonnes. Growth will be achieved due to the record soybean crop in the country in 2016/17 - 114.1 million tonnes. The qualities of Brazilian soybean, in particular the protein content is above that of US soybean.

- The world's major producer and exporter of palm oil Indonesia will block import of dry milk from the EU, if the European Parliament imposes restrictions on import of palm oil.

- As of November 2, 2017, in Ukraine, 5.652 million hectares with sunflower (95% of the plan). are harvested, 10.92 million tonnes of sunflower were harvested at average yield of 1.96 mt/ ha. Soybean is harvested on 3.248 million hectares, 1,714 million tonnes of soybean (86%) were harvested at average yield of 1.9 mt/ ha.

- As of November 3, 2017, in Russia, 5.3 million hectares with sunflower were harvested (68.2% of the area), 8.2 million tonnes of sunflower were harvested at average yield of 1.55 mt/ ha (1.58).

- According to forecast of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council, in 2016/17, export of the product amounts to 16.3 million tonnes at 16.6 million tonnes a year earlier, while crop is 18.9 million tonnes (19.88). In 2017/18. palm oil production in Malaysia will be 21 million tonnes and export 18 million tonnes.

- In September, 357,200 tonnes of vegetable oils were produced in Russia, up 13.8% from August, but 1.8% less than September 2016. During the period January - September 2017, in Russia, 3.975 million tonnes of vegetable oils were produced (+ 11.2%), incl. sunflower oil 3.19 million tonnes (+ 17.6%).

- According to estimate of the European Commission, in 2017/18, rapeseed import into the EU will be 3.46 million tonnes at 4.7 million tonnes in 2016/17. and 3.5 million tonnes on average over the past five years. Larger quantities of rapeseed will be delivered by France with cropm amounting to 5.4 million tonnes (4.7) , Great Britain - 2.09 million tonnes (1.78), Poland - 2.7 million tonnes (2.28) and Romania - 1.94 million tonnes (1.75).

- As of the end of last week, in Brazil, sowing is completed on 31% of the planned areas at 40% last year and 34.5% on average over the past five years.
