Grain Highlights 16.12.2020

The Russian government is considering imposing an export duty on sunflower oil of 15% or a minimum of 135 EUR / ton.

- In November, 4.6 million tons of grain were exported from Russian ports, which is 11.9% less than the previous month and the export figure in November 2019 was 5.21 million tons. Exports of wheat reached 

  • wheat - 4 million tons (-9%)
  • barley - 393,000 tons
  • corn - 197,000 tons (+11.2%)

During the month, the largest customers were:

  • wheat - Egypt with 1.16 million tons
  • barley - Saudi Arabia with 189,800 tons
  • corn - Turkey with 108,400 tons

- In November, 1.75 million tons of oilseeds and their products were exported from Ukrainian seaports. The exports in November reach:

  • sunflower oil - 820,000 tons (+170% compared to October)
  • sunflower meal - 310,000 tons (-20.9%)
  • sunflower - 60,000 tons (-14.5%)

The largest importers were:

  • India with 346,000 tons
  • China with 345,100 tons
  • Turkey with 212,700 tons

- From the beginning of the season to 13.12.2020, 17.811 million tons of grain were exported from the EU, which is 19% less than the previous season (-23% a week earlier). Imports reached 10.218 million tons (-17% and -17%). Corn imports were 7.558 million tons (-23% and -23%).

- The authorities in Brazil have renewed the import duty of ethanol from the United States at a rate of 20%. On 14.12.2020, the term for duty-free import of the product has expired.

- According to the latest forecast of Abiove, soybean imports to Brazil will reach 800,000 tons in 2021 compared to 500,000 tons in the November estimate. Other analysts expect imports to reach 1 million ton of soybeans. The soybean production is expected to reach 132.6 million tons compared to 127 million tons in the previous season. The ending stocks are predicted at 219,000 tons (419,000). Exports will be 83.5 million tons (+1.2 million tons).

- According to AgRural, as of December 10, 2020, 95% of the planned soybean areas in Brazil have been sown, which is 5% more than the previous week. The total area sown with soybean will be 38.3 million hectares (+3.6% compared to the previous year), and the production is expected to reach 131.6 million tons (-0.6 million tons compared to the previous estimate), which is still a record level.

- Port workers in Argentina have gone on strike again. The operation of the main port in the country, from which 80% of the agricultural production is exported - Rosario, has been blocked.

- Tunisia has announced a tender for the purchase of 117,000 tons of soft wheat, 100,000 tons of durum wheat and 100,000 tons of feed barley. Deliveries will be done in the period January-February.
