- In 2021, the area planted with spring rapeseed in France will fall to 500,000 hectares (800,000 hectares in 2020), the area sown with sunflower will reach 580,000 hectares (-25%), and the area planted with corn will decrease by 18%. Areas sown with winter crops increased by 13%, but remained below the average five-year level. Areas planted with winter rapeseed decreased by 10% to 1 million hectares, which is the lowest level since 1997.
- Yesterday, commodity funds in Chicago were net sellers of 22,500 contracts of corn, 5,500 contracts of wheat, 11,500 contracts of soybeans.
- Since the beginning of the season, 29.833 million tons of grain have been exported from Ukraine, which is 7.438 million tons less than in 2019/20. These exports included:
- wheat- 13.157 million tons (-2.87 million tons)
- barley- 3.955 million tons (+56,000 tons)
- corn- 12.209 million tons (-4.66 million tons)
- According to MPOB data, palm oil stocks in Malaysia increased by 4.68% to 1.32 million tons in January, palm oil exports reached 947,400 tons (-42.3%) and palm oil production was 1.13 million tons (-15.5%). This is a signal of rising palm oil prices.
- Turkey is looking to buy 25,000 tons of sunseed oil with delivery in March-April.
- According to Oil World, world soyoil exports increased significantly to a total of 898,000 tons in January compared to 331,000 tons in Dec 2020 and 576,000 tons in Jan 2020. Argentina exported 660,000 tons of soyoil (140,000 and 439,000), the United States exported 150,000 tons (107,000 and 57,000) and Paraguay exported 58,000 tons (38,000 and 28,000). Among the largest importers for the month were:
- India with 444,000 tons (147,000 and 358,000)
- Bangladesh with 91,000 tons (13,000 and 45,000)
- Brazil with 55,000 tons (11,000 and 10,000)
- China with 34,000 tons (48,000 and 16,000)
- the EU with 12,000 tons (16,000 and 15,000)
From the beginning of the current season (October - January), world exports of soyoil reached 2.72 million tons (+9.7% compared to the previous season or 2.47 million tons).
