Grain Highlights 18.02.2021

According to the forecast of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, wheat production in Canada will reach 32.7 million tons in 2021/22, which is 1 million tons less than the previous estimate. Wheat production was 35.2 million tons in 2020/21.

- Yesterday, commodity funds in Chicago were net sellers of 2,000 soybean contracts and 9,000 wheat contracts.

- According to the forecast of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, wheat production in Canada will reach 32.7 million tons in 2021/22, which is 1 million tons less than the previous estimate. Wheat production was 35.2 million tons in 2020/21. Exports estimate was decreased by 1 million tons to 24 million tons (26.5). Domestic consumption of wheat is projected at 8.4 million tons (-0.1). The barley production is expected to reach 10.6 million tons (+1.1 and 10.7) and canola production is estimated at 20.2 million tons (+0.3 and 18.7).

- According to Oil World, the production of soyoil in the United States was 1.04 million tons in January compared to 1.01 million tons in December and 0.98 million tons in Jan 2020. Soyoil stocks increased to 1.06 million tons (1.01 and 1.07) and soyoil exports went up to 15,000 tons (11,000 and 6,000). Soymeal production was 4.22 million tons (4.12 and 4.01), domestic consumption was 3.1 million tons (2.95 and 3.12) and soymeal exports were 1.18 million tons (1.31 and 0.98). Over the period of October - January, the production of soyoil was 4.09 million tons (3.82) and soymeal production reached16.65 million tons (15.66).

- Pakistan is looking to buy 300,000 tons of milling wheat of any origin.

- Tunisia has announced a tender for the purchase of 92,000 tons of durum wheat, 100,000 tons of soft wheat and 100,000 tons of feed barley of any origin and delivery in the period of 15.03 - 25.04.2021.

- The Government of Malaysia has extended the export tax of 8% on palm oil.

- On Feb 17, 2021, Jordan purchased 60,000 tons of milling wheat of any origin, most likely Romanian, at a price of 272 USD/ton and delivery in the first half of September.

- A group of private Philippine companies have held a tender for the purchase of 145,000 tons of milling and feed wheat. Prices were over 300 USD/ton and they were considered very high which led to the cancellation of the tender.
