The sowing of spring wheat in the United States lags behind schedule

The cold spring and the plenty of rainfalls continue to slow down sowing of spring wheat in the US, according to the latest USDA data.

As of 23.04.2017 spring wheat sowing has been completed in 22% of the planned areas, compared to 40% a year earlier and an average of 34% over the last five years.

The state of winter wheat remains stable. The share of crops in good and excellent condition amounts to 54% (compared to 59% last year).

The pace of corn sowing is above market expectations. About 11% of the planned area has been planted for the week. As of 23.04.2017 corn sowing has been completed up to 17% of the plan (18% and 28%).
