France: Barley Export Grows In December, But Corn Export Is On The Fall

239,400 tons of corn and 458,700 tons of barley were exported from France in December 2016. Corn export decreased by 18.4% compared with December 2015, but barley export increased by 8%.

The EU countries were the biggest corn buyers: Spain 74,400 tons, Germany 31,700 tons, The Netherlands 37,500 tons, Belgium 36,400 tons and Great Britain 21,300 tons.

Belgium 103,700 tons, Tunisia 53,200 tons, Jordan 50,600 tons, Morocco 50,500 tons and Saudi Arabia 50,200 tons were the biggest barley buyers.

Wheat export in December was 808,100 tons, which is 8.5% more than November, but 57.1% less than December 2015.

FranceAgriMer projected lower corn export from France in the current season down to 4.895 mln tons (-19.7%) as well as lower barley export of 4.485 mln tons (-41.6%).

The agency went on to decrease its wheat export forecast, too. The latest forecast has been decreased by 35,000 tons upon the January one to 11.01 mln tons, which is a 46.4% drop on the previous season.

Export to EU countries will be 6 mln tons (-135,000 tons on the January forecast and -23.1% compared with last year). 4.9 mln tons (+100,000 tons and -61.2%) will be exported to third countries.

Soft wheat import will be 700,000 tons – remains unchanged upon the previous forecast.

French Association of Wheat Producers AGPB expects that wheat production will be restored in 2017 after the floods of 2016. Yield dropped back then by 31% to 28 mln tons. Yield is now projected at about 38 – 40 mln tons, which will be second best to the record of 2015 – 2016.
