Spain: Grain Import Decreased By 18% In The First Half Of The Season

Spain imported 7.13 mln tons of grain in the first half of the current season (July - June), which is 18% less than the same period of last year, Spanish Ministry of Agriculture reported.

Wheat import dropped to 3.674 mln tons (3.796 mln tons in the July - December 2015 period), corn import is down to 2.473 mln tons (3.726) while 0.609 mln tons of barley (0.681) were imported.

Import decline is due to the larger 2016 yields. COCERAL reported that the total 2016 grain yield in Spain was 23.0 mln tons (18.9).

France was the biggest grain supplier during the season with 1.384 mln tons (1.826) followed by Bulgaria with 1.167 mln tons (1.048), Ukraine with 0.88 mln tons (1.941), Romania with 0.589 mln tons (0.768), Lithuania with 0.461 mln tons (0.273), Great Britain with 0.416 mln tons (0.528) and Russia with 0.206 mln tons (0.093).
