Argentina: Corn Areas Forecast Has Been Increased; Soybean Areas Forecast Has Been Decreased

Argentinian Ministry of Agriculture revised and increased the country’s crop areas this season +50,000 ha up to 7.3 mln ha.

Areas are growing in key districts such as Cordoba and Buenos Aires.

Soybean areas forecast has been reduced and it will be the lowest figure for the past five years – 19.45 mln ha (-0.35).

The biggest decline is expected in the provinces of Cordoba and Santa Fe.

Sunflower harvesting in Argentina has been running fast. 0.92 mln tons of sunflower were harvested in the country prior to February 15, 2017, versus 0.7 mln tons a year earlier. The forecast for sunflower export from the country in the January - March period is 50% of last year's export. It is expected sunflower oil export in February will be about 60 – 80,000 tons while sunflower meal export will be 70 – 90,000 tons.
