India To Reduce Oilseed Oil Purchase In The Current Season

In the current season (October - January 2016 – 2017), India is reducing oilseed oil purchases by 21% versus the same period of the previous year from 4.39 mln tons to 3.49 mln tons.

Palm oil import has reached 2.26 mln tons (2.77 mln tons or -18%) while the import of soybean oil has been 674,000 tons (1.16 mln tons -42%). The reason for that is the reduction of the price spread between the different types of oil, especially the price rise of palm oil by +22.9% and soybean oil by +17%.

Meanwhile sunflower oil price has decreased by 6.3% and import in the country has increased to 441,000 tons (394,000 tons or +12%).

FAS USDA projects increased oilseed oil import in India in 2016 - 2017. There will be a +4% growth versus 2015 – 2016 up to 16 mln tons.
