Japanese Ministry of Agriculture has announced a regular auction for the purchase of 146,455 tons of milling wheat from the USA and Canada to be delivered between April 21 and June 20, 2017.

Taiwanese association MIPA has announced an auction for the purchase of 40 – 65,000 tons of corn to be delivered between April and May.

Between January 1 and March 3, 2017 South Africa imported 181,300 tons of yellow corn from Ukraine, 27,100 tons from Romania and 15,700 tons from the USA. 343,300 tons of corn from Argentina, 188,200 tons from Brazil and 128,300 tons from Paraguay were imported a year earlier. 77 700 tons of corn were imported from Ukraine in the whole of 2016.

On March 14, 2017, South Korean company NOFI bought at an auction 207,000 tons of corn and 69,000 tons of wheat fodder of unspecified origin.

Informa Economics analysts increased their estimate on corn areas in the USA in 2017 from 90.489 mln acreas to 90.8 mln acres. Larger soybean areas are expected too – 88.7 mln acres up from 88.647 mln acres. Wheat areas remain unchanged at 45.6 mln acres. We can assume that the average corn production will be around 167 bushels/acre and then the yield will be 354.3 mln tons. With soybean production of 48 bushels/acre the yield will reach 115.2 mln tons. We can expect wheat yield of up to 50 mln tons.

The Kenyan government is planning to buy 450,000 tons of non-GM corn from Ukraine. The delivery must be done between March and May.

During the current marketing year, Egyptian authorities have limited to a minimum the use of private storage areas for grain storing. 2 mln tons of last year’s 5-mln-ton wheat purchases were probably speculative. State storage areas in Egypt have a capacity of 4.2 mln tons of grain. During the new campaign, the government is planning to buy 4.5 mln tons of wheat from the farmers.

Oil World reported that Turkey imported 30,000 tons of sunflower in January and import reached 132,000 tons in the first half of the season. The result is 33,000 tons higher than the previous year and it is the second lowest result in the past six years. Deliveries from Romania have decreased drastically to 4,000 tons while those from Russia have increased. Import from Moldova has remained unchanged.
