Turkey To Search For Alternative To Russian Wheat

Turkish importers have signed contracts for 500,000 tons of high quality wheat from the Black Sea region and the EU to be delivered in April.

100,000 tons of wheat were bought from Ukraine, 50,000 tons from Hungary and 350,000 tons from Lithuania and Latvia.

14%-protein wheat from Latvia and Lithuania is being offered at 218 USD/ton C&F at the Turkish port of Mersin. Hungarian wheat is being offered at the same price at the Marmaras port. These prices are 10 USD/ton higher than 13.5%-protein Russian wheat. Apart from Russia, Poland and Germany are also on the list of countries whose wheat is taxed when imported in Turkey.

Russian analysts predict that Turkey will substitute Russian sunflower oil import with Ukrainian, but will not be able to find about 2 mln tons of wheat which could be delivered from Russia. Ukrainian sunflower oil is +5 USD/ton more expensive than Russian, which makes an insignificant price rise for consumers.
