FAS USDA forecasts sharp decline of the wheat and barley crops in Australia

In the following season the wheat crops in Australia will decrease to 24 million tonnes, which is 31% less than the current year

The production of barley will drop by 37% to 8.5 million tonnes according to the latest forecast of FAS USDA.

Wheat ares will decrease from 12.9 millions ha to 12.8 millions ha, and barley areas - from 4.0 million ha to 3.5 million ha. The sowing will happen in April - June.

The exoprt potential of the Australian wheat during the new season will decrease to 18 million tonnes, which is 20% less than  the current year. The export of barley will decrease by 35% to 5.5 million tonnes.

In 2016 the biggest buyers of Australian wheat were Indonesia 3.5 million tonnes, Vietnam 1.5 million tonnes and China 1.5 million tonnes.

The share of Australia on the world market of malting barley is 30%, and that of feed barley 20%. The biggest buyer of barley from Australia for the last years is China.
