Argentina raises forecasts on corn and soybean yileds

The Buenos Aires Grains Exchange raised its forecast for the corn and soybean yields in Argentina, as crops' harvest is under way with might and main.

As of May 11th 2017,  harvest on 37.8% of the areas under corn cultivation is completed and 66.5% of the soybean areas. 14.0 mln. tonnes of corn and 40.1 mln. tonnes of soybean were harvested.

Corn yield is expected to reach 39 mln. tonnes (37 mln. tonnes in the previous forecast) and soybean - 57.5 mln. tonnes (56.5) . The estimates of the corn areas in the country are higher, and the soybean yields are above expectations. The average soybean yield for the year will amount to 3.19 tonnes/ha, which will be above the record of 3.17 tonnes / ha in 2013-2014.
