SAR: Wheat import declines by 60%

From the beginning of the current season - October, 2016 486 700 tonnes of wheat were imported to the South African Republic, by 60% less compared to the same period last year, according to SAGIS.

The main suppliers of wheat are Germany 173 400 tonnes, Czech Republic 77 700 tonnes, Poland 77 400 tonnes, Russia 53 100 tonnes.

For the whole previous year, 2.063 million tonnes of wheat have been imported into the country, incl. from Russia 96 710 tonnes and Germany 283 500 tonnes.

In 2016 wheat crop in South Africa amounted to 1.91 million tonnes,, given 1.44 million tonnes in 2015.
