FAO: Saudi Arabia will raise grain import

FAO: Saudi Arabia will raise grain import in 2017 – 2018 up to 20.4 million tonnes

Compared to the current season, import will grow by 7% and will exceed the average five-year figure of 3 million tonnes.

Import of barley will reach 11 million tonnes, corn 4.2 million tonnes. The government stimulated the consumption of processed grain and by doing so it aims to reduce barley import until 2020 by 1.5 million tonnes. In 2017 own grain production will reach the minimum of 265,000 tonnes - mainly sorghum.
