In May, the US gets ahead of Australia as wheat supplier in China

In May 2017, the US shipped to China 288,966 tonnes of wheat or over 57% of the May import of the Asian country.

Typically, more than 50% of China's wheat import is from Australia. In April, US wheat with protein content of 11.5% was over 30 USD / mt cheaper than Australian wheat.

US hard wheat with protein content of 14% is priced at 270 USD / mt in Shanghai, as the Australian is by 10 USD/mt more expensive.

During the period January - May 2017, in China, 2,175 million tonnes of wheat were delivered, up by 67.6% over the same period of the previous year. Deliveries from Australia were 1.102 million tonnes or 50.6%, and from the US 804.073 tonnes or 37%. The share of supplies from Kazakhstan was 8.2% and Russia - 0.09%.
