IGC: Global wheat crop perspectives worsen

IGC lowered estimates on global wheat production in 2017-2018 by 1million tonnes down to 735 million tonnes, given 754 million tonnes in the current season.

Such a significant crop reduction is expected due to the unfavorable natural conditions in the US and the EU. Wheat crop in the US will reach 48.6 million tonnes (-1 million tonnes compared to the previous forecast) and in the EU 149.4 million tonnes (149.9 tonnes). Losses can not be estimated precisely yet , because the crops have not reached full maturity.

Global corn production has been reduced by 1 million tonnes to 1.025 billion tonnes and 1.07 billion tonnes in 2016-2017. The crop will decrease in China to 213 million tonnes (215.2) and in the EU to 60.2 million tonnes (61). Growth is expected in Argentina to 41 million tonnes (39.8).
