Grains Highlights

Tunisia bought 100,000 tonnes of hard wheat of optional origin, at 286.29 – 289.69 USD/mt, C&F and November - December shipment.

Wheat

- The government of India is expected to raise soon the import duty on wheat from 10% now to 20-25%. From April, up to now, 850,000 tonnes of wheat were imported into the country, with an additional 150,000 tonnes expected.

- During the first three months of 2017 - 2018. out of Ukraine, 117,500 tonnes of wheat flour were exported, which is 24% more than the same period in 2016.

- Iraq announced an auction for the purchase of 50,000 tonnes of milling wheat from the United States, Canada, or Australia.

- Tunisia purchased 100,000 tonnes of hard wheat of optional origin, at 286.29 - 289.69 USD / mt, C & F and for November - December shipment.

 

Grain

- According to forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, in the current season, grain crop in the country will reach 130 million tonnes net weight at 120.7 million tonnes in 2016. This record was set in 1978. - 127 million tonnes.

- 7.664 million tonnes of grain are harvested in Belarus, which is 633,000 tonnes less than last year at an average yield of 3.56 mt/ ha (+0.22 mt/ ha). A monthly record for the past 10 years is set in September - 44,900 tonnes.

- In 2017 - 2018. Russia delivered 1.9 million tonnes of grain to Bangladesh, up 63% from the previous season. Thus, Bangladesh ranks third in the export list for Russian grain.

- During the period 2006 - 2016. agricultural areas in Russia increased by 4.5 million hectares to 79.21 million hectares.

- In the current season, Saudi Arabia will reduce barley import to 8 million tonnes from 9.1 million tonnes in the previous year. The decrease will be due to replacing barley consumption with that of corn and soybean.

- Jordan purchased 50,000 tonnes of feed barley of optional origin and shipment from December 16 to 31 at $ 218 / mt, C & F.

- The Government of Thailand allocated $42.67 million in subsidies to encourage farmers in the country to grow corn. In 2017 - 2018. the subsidy will be $375 / ha as the maximum subsidized farm area will be 2.4 hectares.

 

Oil crops and vegetable oils 

- In 2018. soybean export from Brazil could reach 65 million tonnes, which is a record high. Analysts from Abiove raised their harvest forecast to 113.8 million tonnes from the previous one of 108.5 million tonnes. Soybean processing in the country remains unchanged at 43 million tonnes.

- According to the latest Strategy Grains forecast, in 2017 - 2018 areas under oil crops cultivation in the EU will drop 1% from the previous year to 12.1 million hectares. Rapeseed areas will reach 6.64 million hectares (6.73) and that of sunflower 4.1 million hectares (-2%).

- On October 2, 2017 Egypt's state-owned company GASC purchased 22,500 tonnes of sunflower oil at price of 800.85 USD /mt and 30,000 tonnes of soybean oil at 810 USD/mt for October - December shipment

- In 2016 - 2017. Kazakhstan exported the record 719,000 tonne of oil crops, incl. 315,000 tonnes of flax and 270,000 tonnes of sunflower.
