Grain Highlights

Iraq purchased 50,000 tonnes of US hard wheat at 299 USD/mt, C&F. Australian and Canadian wheat were offered at the auction as well, at 301.27 USD/mt, C&F the first and at 304.96 USD/mt, C&F the latter.

Wheat

- Iraq purchased 50,000 tonnes of US hard wheat at 299 USD/mt, C&F. Australian and Canadian wheat were offered at the auction as well, at  301.27 USD/mt, C&F the first and at 304.96 USD/mt, C&F the latter.

- Turkey announced a series of auctions for the purchase of 150,000 tonnes of milling wheat under C & F terms.

- The Argentine Ministry of Agricultuure raised its estimate for wheat areas in the country in the new season by 150,000 hectares to 5.93 million hectares, by 430,000 hectares less yoy.

 

Grain

- In 2017 - 2018. farmers in SAR will lower the area under corn cultivation after the huge 2016-2017 crop. According to SES forecast, areas will reach 2,176 million hectares (2,629 million hectares in the previous year). White corn areas will be 1.16 million hectares (-29%), but that of yellow corn will grow by 3.2% to 1.017 million hectares. In 2016 - 2017 the corn crop reached the record 16,744 million tonnes, which is + 115% more than the problematic 2015-2016 season.

- In 2017 - 2018 grain crop in Ukraine will reach 60.76 million tonnes, incl. wheat 26.3 million tonnes, corn 23.5 million tonnes and barley 8.5 million tonnes. Rye crop will be 510,000 tonnes, that of oat 485,000 tonnes, rice 65,000 tonnes and other grains 1.4 million tonnes. In the new season, export will reach 44.67 million tonnes, compared to 41.7 million tonnes in the previous forecast. Wheat export will be 17.6 million tonnes, barley 5.22 million tonnes, and corn 18.46 million tonnes.

- According to Russagrothans forecast, grain export from Russia will reach 4 - 4.3 million tonnes in October, a record monthly high. In October 2016, grain export were 2.95 million tonnes. Wheat export will be 3.2 million tonnes (+ 150% compared to October 2016), barley 400,000 tonnes (+ 200%), corn 340,000 tonnes (643,000 tonnes in October 2016). During the period July - October, export of Russian grain will grow by 23% compared to last year to 16.5 million tonnes.

- During the period January - August 2017, 22.81 million tonnes of grain were exported from Russia, up 19.9% yoy. 16.743 million tonnes of wheat (+ 19.9% yoy), barley 2.499 million tonnes (+ 36.9%) and corn 3.332 million tonnes (+ 11.4%) were exported.

- According to data from Transagent, during the week October 16 - 22, 2017. from the Russian port of Novorossiysk 321,232 tonnes of grain were exported, which is 22.2% less than the previous week and 3.4% less than the same week of 2016. 291,990 tonnes of wheat (-23% per week), 29,242 tonnes of corn (-12,5%) were exported.

- As of November 20, 2017. in Ukraine 6.4 million hectares are sown with grain (88% of the plan), incl. winter wheat and triticale 5.6 million hectares (91% of the forecast), winter rye 138,000 hectares (86%) and barley 672,000 hectares (73%), winter rapeseed, 838,000 hectares (+ 8%).

- In September, China imported 250,000 tonnes of corn at 377,518 tonnes a month earlier. During the period January - September 2017, corn import reached 2.28 million tonnes (+ 23.6%).

- According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, from the beginning of 2017, corn import to the country have reached 2.8 million tonnes. This is a serious increase in import, which is dictated by the government's decision to limit the cultivation of GM corn varieties in the country.

 

Oil crops and vegetable oil

- According to official data, from October 1, 2017 until October 17,.2017. soybean import into the EU reach 3.25 million tonnes, which is 19% less than the previous year - 4 million tonnes. Import of soybean meal reaches 5.6 million tonnes (5.25) and palm oil 1.9 million tonnes (1.75).

- In 2017 - 2018 global palm oil production remains relatively high at 4.5 million tonnes. Production in Malaysia will be 19.1 - 19.3 million tonnes, and Indonesia 34 - 34.5 million tonnes according to forecast by Godrej International Limited. A key customer remains India with 9.85 million tonnes (+0.6 million tonnes).
