Grain Highlights

According to analyst from Malaysia, in January 2018, the Malaysian palm oil will reach a price of 800 USD/mt, C&F Rotterdam.

Wheat

- Heavy rainfall in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul will cause a reduction in the wheat crop to 1.5-1.7 million tonnes in 2017-2018. Yield will be within 17.5 - 30 bushels / acre. Moisture will degrade the quality of the grain to forage.

- The Egyptian authorities will soon publish a document describing all the specifications, procedures and rules with regard to import of wheat. The aim is obstacles to be avoided . In the recent years, Egypt has been constantly hampered by bureaucratic problems that raise the risk premium for wheat import.

- In 2018, the state's price of wheat in India will be 266.6 USD / mt, which is 6.8% more than in 2017.

- According to an independent research by Reuters, wheat crop in Australia in the current year will drop to 20.15 million tonnes, 7% less than the official estimate - 21.64 million tonnes and over 40% below last year's level - 35.56 million tonnes. Domestic consumption of wheat is estimated at 7-8 million tonnes, stocks will reach 6-7 million tonnes and export 17-18 million tonnes in 2017/18.

 

Grain

- From the beginning of 2017/18 854,000 tonnes of grain were exported from Russia to Saudi Arabia,  22% more yoy. 851,000 tonnes of barley were also imported, as well as peas and chickpeas. Saudi Arabia will be ranked on fourth place among the TOP-10 importers of Russian grain in 2017/18. In 2016/17 Saudi Arabia cut purchases of Russian grain to 1.1 million tonnes (-51% vs. 201516).

- During the period July - August 2017 / 18 Romania exported 372,000 tonnes of barley, which is 20% less than the same period of the previous year - 462,000 tonnes. The main buyer is Iran 75,380 tonnes. In August, Japan purchased 25,850 tonnes of barley at only 7,600 tonnes for the entire 2016/17.

 

Oil crops and vegetable oils

- According to Oil World, in September 2017, export of sunflower oil from the three key producers in the world - Ukraine, Russia and Argentina reached 546,000 tonnes at 391,000 tonnes a year earlier. The main buyers were India 131,000 tonnes, China 102,000 tonnes and the EU 81,000 tonnes. During the period July - September 2017, export reached the record 1.85 million tonnes or 46% more than the previous year - 582,000 tonnes. In 2016 - 2017.  2.2 million tonnes of sunflower oil from these exporters were delivered to India, 1.7 million tonnes to the EU, 0.58 million tonnes to Egypt, and 0.6 million tonnes to Iran.

- Vietnam continues to increase its oil processing capacity as a result of strong oil demand. In 2016 - 2017. soybean import reaches 1.65 million tonnes (1.58 million tonnes in 2015-2016). Major suppliers are Brazil 52% share, USA 22%, Singapore 17% and others.

- Sunflower stocks in Ukraine as of October 1, 2017 amount to 5.83 million tonnes, which is 0.4% less than the previous year 5.85 million tonnes.

- In 2017, 12.8 million tonnes of sunflower will be produced in Ukraine, according to analysts from ODA Ukraine. At present, the average yield at 50% of the areas harvested is 1.95 mt/ ha at 2.19 mt/ ha last year.

- During the period January - September 2017. in Ukraine, 3,701 million tonnes of unrefined sunflower oil were produced. Only in September production was 346,000 tonnes (-13.7%).

- In 2016/17. import of soybean meal in Vietnam reached 1.65 million tonnes at 1.58 million tonnes in 2015/16. Major suppliers were Brazil with 52%, US 22%, and Singapore 17%. In 2017/18 import of the product will reach 1.75 million tonnes.

- According to analyst from Malaysia, in January 2018, the price of Malaysian palm oil will reach USD 800 / mt, C & F Rotterdam. The recovery of oil production in Malaysia and Indonesia goes off not as fast as expected. At the end of January 2018, palm oil stocks in Malaysia will not exceed 2.3 million tonnes. From this month on, stocks are typically downgrading to July. In March,  palm oil price, C & F Rotterdam, is expected to reach $ 850 / mt. In 2018 the price of the product may be suppressed by the large production of soybean oil in North and South America and that of sunflower oil in Russia and Ukraine.
