Grain Highlights

As of November 3, 2017in Ukraine, 11.2 million tonnes of sunflower were jharvested on 5.7million hectares (96%).

Wheat

- Indonesia has purchased 30,000 tons of Australian wheat at a price of 247-250 USD / ton C & F and delivery January - February 2018.

- In the July-October period, Bangladesh increased its import of wheat by almost 30% annually to 2.1 million tonnes. High import is also expected in the coming months. Between January and June, wheat imports amounted to 5.8 million tonnes.

- Next year the Egyptian government will buy wheat from local farmers at world prices.

 

Grain

- According to statement of the Chinese company COFCO, it sells its subsidiary Nidera to Syngenta AG.

- According to Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, as of November 3, 2017, corn sowing in Argentina is completed on 33.9% of the planned areas, which is 5.9% more than in the previous year. For the season, corn areas in the country are expected to reach 5.1 million hectares.

- In 2018/19. wheat areas in India may rise due to higher purchase prices. Compared to the previous year, the price rose by $17 to 267 USD/mt, and a year earlier it also rose, but by $15.4. FAS USDA lowered its estimate for import of wheat to the country by 0.5 million tonnes to 3 million tonnes. Market operators report that from the beginning of 2017/18, the country purchased 487,000 tonnes of wheat, and another 600,000 - 700,000 tonnes were purchased from the Black Sea region.

- As of November 3, 2017, in Ukraine, 52.5 million tonnes of grain were harvested on 13 million hectares (89% of the areas). The corn harvested so far is 14.4 million tonnes on 29 million hectares (65%).

 

Oil crops and vegetable oils 

- According to preliminary data of the Brazil's customs office, 3.87 million tonnes of soybean were exported from the country in October, 124% more than in October 2016, but 27.7% less than in September. Between January and October, Brazil exported 77.1 million tonnes of soybean to 64.2 million tonnes a year earlier. Export of soybean meal in October amounted to1.27 million tonnes (+ 76%) and soybean oil to 115,600 tonnes.

- According to Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, as of November 3, 2017, soybean sowing in Argentina is completed on 7.2% of the planned areas (+ 5.4% per week), 2.2% more than the previous year. It is expected that the total areas under soybean cultivation during the season will be 18.1 million hectares.

- According to Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, as of November 3, 2017, sowing of sunflower in Argentina is completed on 60% of the planned area, which will reach 4.4 million hectares.

- The Government of India intends to raise import duty on vegetable oil again in order to protect local producers.

- According to Oil World, in the first 7 months of the Iranian 2017/18, that started in March, sunflower oil import to Iran reached 317,000 tonnes at 152,000 tonnes a year earlier. The main suppliers were Ukraine 174,000 tonnes (95,000) and Russia 120,000 tonnes (51,000). High import activity is expected in the coming months as well, with import of total 55 million tonnes for the whole year.

- According to an independent study by Reuters, palm oil production in Malaysia rose by 9.4% in September to 1.5 million tonnes in October, the highest since October 2015. Yields are higher than 2016, but lower than 2015. Ending stocks grew for the fourth consecutive month, this time by 9.6% compared to September to 2.2 million tonnes. Export grew by 2.3% to 1.55 million tonnes - the highest annual level.

- In September, 21,300 tonnes of rapeseed were exported from Ukraine at 18,300 tonnes in August 2017. and 23,300 tonnes in September 2016. During the period July - September, rapeseed export reached 42,800 tonnes (54,100).

- As of November 3, 2017, 5.32 million hectares with sunflower were harvested in Russia (68% of the area)s, and 8.23 million tonnes of sunflower were harvested.

- According to the European Commission, in 2017/18. in the EU, rapeseed harvest will be 22.29 million tonnes, which is the second result after the 2014/15 record. - 24.27 million tonnes. In 2016/17. rapeseed import into the EU was 4.7 million tonnes, but in 2017/18. it is expected to drop by 1.24 million tonnes to 3.46 million tonnes.
