Grain Highlights

In October import of soybean to China is 5.86 million tonnes, by 28% less than in September. The figure is far below the market expectations, though by 12% above last year's figure – 5.21 million tonnes. There is a delay of shipments from the US.

Wheat

- In September 2017, France exported 1.149 million tonnes of common wheat, by 16% more than in August and 59% more than in September 2016. The major buyer of French wheat is Algeria - 298,595 tonnes (-45% compared to August) followed by Belgium 192,092 tonnes (+ 10%). From the beginning of the season, 3.67 million tonnes of wheat were exported from the country.

- Algeria announced a tender for the purchase of 50,000 tonnes of wheat of optional origin and for December shipment. Merchants believe that Argentine wheat will be purchased predominantly , and the French will have a small share.

- Ethiopia doubles the volume of wheat that is to be purchased at auction, scheduled for November 28, 2017, from 200,000 to 400,000 tonnes.

 

Grain

- Japan purchased 32,540 tonnes of feed wheat and 37,610 tonnes of feed barley with delivery on January 31, 2018.

- In the Brazilian state Parana, corn sowing is completed on 99% of the planned areas. The future crop is estimated at 3.06 million tonnes, 38% less yoy.

- In September 2017, 388,974 tonnes of barley were exported from France , 23% less than in August, but almost 49% more than in September 2016. Major customers are China 94,911 tonnes (+ 62% compared to August) and Belgium 125,777 tonnes (+ 25.5%). From the beginning of the season, France has exported 1,168 million tonnes of barley.

- As of November 7, 2017, in Ukraine,  6.9 million hectares are sown with winter crops, which is 95% of the plan - 7.2 million hectares. With winter wheat and triticale - 5.9 million hectares (96%), rye - 147,000 hectares (93%), and barley -  815,000 hectares (88%).

 

Oil crops and vegetable oils

- In the Brazilian state Parana, soybean sowing is completed on 80% of the planned areas, which is 54.23 million decares. Soybean production in the state is expected to be 19.5 million tonnes.

- According to Oil World, during the period September - October, global soybean export grew by 10% or +4.36 million tonnes compared to the previous year to 23.46 million tonnes. The main reason for the growth is Brazil - 6.76 million tonnes of soybean (2.44). Deliveries from Argentina are 1.52 million tonnes (1.19), Uruguay 0.5 million tonnes (0.25), Paraguay 0.43 million tonnes (0.28), US 14.25 million tonnes (14.94). During the period  5.7 million tonnes of soybeans were exported from Brazil to China,(+4 million tonnes compared to the previous year).

- As of November 7, 2017. in Ukraine, 859,000 hectares are sown with winter rape, which is 12% more than the plan.

- In September, 17,200 tonnes of rapeseed oil were produced in Ukraine at 31,700 tonnes in August and 15,500 tonnes in September 2016.

- In China, soybean import reaches 5.86 million tonnes in October, down 28% from September. The result is well below market expectations, but is 12% above last year's 5.21 million tonnes. There was a delay with shipments from the US.
