Grain Highlights 09.12.2020

In the period September-November 2020/21, 1.6 million tons of sunflower oil were exported from Ukraine, which is 16% more than the previous year and is an all-time high.

- In the period September-November 2020/21, 1.6 million tons of sunflower oil were exported from Ukraine, which is 16% more than the previous year and is a record high amount. In November alone, exports amounted to 756,500 tons (+32%), incl. 313,000 tons for China (all-time high amount). Since the beginning of the season, the largest importers of Ukrainian sunflower oil are:

  • China with a share of 32%
  • India- 29%
  • EU- 22%

- As of 01.12.2020, 4.734 million hectares were sown with soft winter wheat in France (+12.4% more compared to 2019, but by 1.9% less than the average level for the last five years).

237,000 hectares were sown with durum wheat (+8.8% and -23.5%). 1.258 million hectares were sown with winter barley (+6.6% and -5.7%).

- According to the European Commission, 10,100 tons of rapeseed (259,300 tons a week earlier), 200,000 tons of soybeans (380,700) and 16,700 tons of sunflower (87,600) were delivered to the EU last week. Since the beginning of the season, total imports in the EU reach:

  • rapeseed- 3 million tons (-14%)
  • soybeans- 6.2 million tons
  • sunflower- 527,400 tons (+ 84%)

- In the first twenty-three weeks of the season, EU countries imported 747,400 tons of sunflower oil, which is 14% less than the previous year. The main suppliers have been:

  • Ukraine- 662,400 tons
  • Serbia- 41,800 tons
  • Moldova- 24,700 tons
  • Russia- 4,400 tons
  • Morocco- 4,000 tons

Total imports amounted to 2.307 million tons (2.003) in 2019/20 and 1.697 million tons in 2018/19.

- According to Strategie Grains's forecast, in 2021/22 rapeseed production in the EU (+UK) will reach 18.2 million tons compared to 17.2 million tons in 2020/21. Imports of 5.9 million tons remain unchanged (6.3).

- From the beginning of the season until 06.12.2020, 16.179 million tons of grain have been exported from the EU, which is 23% less than the previous year (-25% a week earlier). Imports reached 9.726 million tons (-17% and -17%). Corn imports have so far been 7.233 million tons (-23% and -23%).

- In November, soybean imports to China amounted to 9.59 million tons, which is 16% more compared to November 2019.

- Since the beginning of the current season, the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has purchased 2.09 million tons of soft red wheat.

- Almost 3.63 million hectares of wheat have been sown in Egypt. The expected wheat production is 10 million tons compared to 9.5 million tons in 2020.

- South Korean FLC purchased 69,000 tons of feed corn of any origin at a price of 235.95 USD / ton C&F with additional cost of 1.25 USD / ton for unloading and delivery in May - June. 68,000 tons of  corn fodder of any origin were purchased from MFG at a price 240.19 USD / ton with the additional cost of +1.25 USD / ton for unloading and delivery until 15.05.2021.

- On 08.12.2020, Iran held a tender for the purchase of 30,000 tons of sunflower oil. At the previous tender held on 30.11.2020, 30,000 tons of sunflower oil were purchased.
