International Grains Council - January 2021

Yesterday, the IGC published data from its January report. Key takeaways:

Grain - In 2020/21 the world grain production is expected at 2.210 million tons (2.220 million tons in the November forecast and 2.186 million tons in 2019/20), consumption will reach 2.216 million tons (2,222 and 2,192), ending stocks are projected at 611 million tons (616 and 617) and the stocks held by the eight largest exporters-146 million tons (151 and 155).

Wheat - In 2020/21 the world wheat production is estimated at 768 million tons (769 and 764), consumption is predicted at 753 million tons (752 and 745), ending stocks- 294 million tons (295 and 278), and stocks in the eight largest exporters- 63 million tons (64 and 64).

Corn - In 2020/21 the world corn production will be 1.133 million tons (1.146 and 1.124), consumption is estimated at 1.161 million tons (1.169 and 1.153), ending stocks are expected at- 268 million tons (275 and 297) and stocks in the four largest exporters at 49 million tons (58 and 63).

Soybeans - In 2020/21 the world soybean production is projected at 359 million tons (365 and 338), consumption at 365 million tons (369 and 351), ending stocks at 45 million tons (45 and 51) and stocks held by the three largest exporters are expected to reach 10 million tons (12 and 23).

Soybean stocks are shrinking dramatically in exporters. The same, but to a lesser extent, applies to corn. Wheat is still in the comfort zone.
