Grain Highlights 15.02.2021

According to the latest ABARE forecast, the wheat production in Australia will be 33.3 million tons in 2020/21, which is 5% higher than the previous record of 31.8 million tons set back in 2016/17 and 7% more than the previous estimate from December.

- According to Rosstat data, as of 01.02.2021, wheat stocks held by Russian farmers were 11.538 million tons, which is 19.1% more than the previous year and 13.3% more than the average level for the last five years.

- During the week of Feb 1 - 7, 50,000 tons of sunseed oil were exported from Russian ports.

- During the week of Feb 1 - 7, exports from Canada have reached:

  • canola - 169,100 tons (258,500 tons a week earlier)
  • soybeans - 60,500 tons of (63,400)
  • barley - 67,400 tons of (108,800)
  • durum - 84,300 tons of (218,000)
  • wheat - 480,500 tons of (252,400)

Since the beginning of the season, wheat exports from the country have increased to 10.6 million tons (8.1).

- Oil World has raised its forecast for the soybean production in Brazil in 2020/21 by 2 million tons to 131 million tons and 126.7 million tons in 2019/20. Soybean exports will reach 82.5 million tons (82.98), soybean crush is predicted at 45.3 million tons (44.5) and ending soybean stocks at 1.7 million tons (0.5).

- Given the slow harvesting capmaign of soybeans in Brazil, Anec lowered its forecast for soybean exports from the country in February to 6 million tons, which is 2.5 million tons less than the previous estimate.

- According to ABIOVE forecast, the soybean production in Brazil will reach 132.6 million tons in 2020/21, which is 3.2% more than the current record of 2019/20.

- According to the latest ABARE forecast, the wheat production in Australia will be 33.3 million tons in 2020/21, which is 5% higher than the previous record of 31.8 million tons set back in 2016/17 and 7% more than the previous estimate from December. The barley production is projected at 13.1 million tons (12 million tons in December and 13.5 million tons in 2016/17) and the rapeseed production is expected at 4.1 million tons (4.3 million tons in 2016/17).

- Algeria has announced a tender for the purchase of 50,000 tons of milling wheat of any origin and delivery in March-April.

- In January, 780,700 tons of palm oil (-31%), 88,660 tons of soyoil (-66%) and 205,200 tons of sunseed oil (-32%) were delivered to India.

- Syria has announced a tender for the purchase of 200,000 tons of wheat of any origin.

- According to data from the Bureau of Statistics of Kazakhstan, as of 01.02.2021 the stocks of cereals in the country were 11.05 million tons compared to 12.67 million tons a year earlier, including wheat stocks of 8.7 million tons and barley stocks of 1.55 million tons.

- Egypt has announced a tender for the purchase of 40,000 tons of vegetable oils with delivery on April 1 - 15. On 18.02.2021, another tender will be held for the purchase of 30,000 tons of soyoil and 10,000 tons of sunseed oil.
