Grain Highlights 22.03.2021

Forward sales of the new corn crop in Ukraine reach 2.5 - 3 million tons, which is well above last year's level. The main reason for this is the high corn prices of 200+ USD/ton.

- According to ICAR data, as of 19.03.2021, Russian wheat 12.5% ​with delivery in April has a FOB price of 273 USD/ton, which is 7 USD/ton less than the previous week. According to SovEkron, FOB price of Russian wheat is 274 USD/ton (-9 USD / ton) and FOB price of feed barley is 248 USD/ton (-6).

- During the week of March 15-21, 43,900 tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk (-80% compared to the previous week and -79.3% compared to the previous year). Exports of wheat were 35,900 tons and barley exports reached 8,000 tons.

- During the week of March 15-21, 57,500 tons of sunseed oil were exported from Russian ports, which is nearly 1/3 less than the previous week. The largest customers were Turkey with 52,500 tons and Egypt with 5,000 tons.

- As of 01.03.2021, sunseed stocks in Ukraine reached 3.62 million tons compared to 5.23 million tons a year earlier. Rapeseed stocks were 57,400 tons (99,700) and soybean stocks were 894,500 tons (1,050,000). The stocks of cereals reach 15.88 million tons (17.88), including wheat stocks of 4.56 million tons (-9%) and corn stocks of 9.9 million tons (-7%).

- According to data from FranceAgriMer, as of 15.03.2021, 87% of soft wheat crops are in good and excellent condition in France (88% a week earlier and 63% a year earlier). The sowing campaign of spring barley was carried out on 97% of the areas (90% and 39%).

- On Friday, commodity funds in Chicago were net buyers of 17,500 contracts of corn and 12,000 contracts of soybeans and net sellers of 3,500 contracts of wheat.

- According to data from Safras & Mercado, as of March 19, 2021, 60% of the soybean areas in Brazil have been harvested, which is +14% for the week. In Mato Grosso, 92% of the crops are harvested, and in Parana- 62%. In Mato Grosso, 98% of the planned areas for corn are sown (+10%). The forecast for the second corn crop has been lowered by 3.3 million tons compared to the January estimate to a total of 80.7 million tons (73.5 million tons a year earlier) and the total corn production will reach 112.8 million tons (106.8).

- The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange kept its forecast for the soybean production in Argentina in 2020/21 unchanged at 44 million tons, despite the recent precipitation.

- According to the Chinese customs service, in the period of January-February, 1.03 million tons of soybeans were imported from Brazil, compared to 5.14 million tons a year earlier. Imports from the US were 11.9 million tons (6.1). Total imports reached 13.41 million tons (-0.8%).

- According to the forecast of the Group Conusltor de Mercados Agricolas (GCMA), in 2021 imports of corn and wheat in Mexico will reach 4.9 million tons (+12%) and 17.5 million tons (+ 9%). Corn production is projected at 27.1 million tons and wheat production at 3 million tons.

- Pakistan bought 300,000 tons of milling wheat, most likely from Ukraine at a price of 285.97 USD/ton C&F and delivery in August.
