Grain Highlights 31.05.2022

According to USDA data, sunseed areas in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and France have increased in 2022 due to the war in Ukraine.

- The Russian Grain Union estimates grain exports from Russia in 2021/22 at 43-44 million tons, including wheat exports of 36 million tons.

- Over the period of 01.07.2021 - 30.05.2022, 46.932 million tons of grain were exported from Ukraine, and only 1.063 million tons in May. Total wheat exports were 18,568 million tons (42,000 in May), barley exports were 5,679 million tons (11,000) and corn exports reached 22,218 million tons (1,007). Flour exports totaled 71,000 tons (1,400 in May).

- According to USDA data, sunseed areas in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and France have increased in 2022 due to the war in Ukraine. The areas in Romania will reach 3 million hectares. Sunseed areas will reach 1.9 million hectares in Bulgaria, 1.9 million hectares in France, 1.7 million hectares in Hungary and 0.77 million hectares in Spain.

- On May 29, Turkey rejected a batch of Indian durum wheat due to phytosanitary concerns. 

- According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture of Algeria, wheat production in the country will increase by 3.2 million tons in 2022 (2 in 2021). The country has wheat stocks that will cover for the domestic consumption over the next 10 months. Imports are estimated at 3 million tons.

- India has received inquiries for the supply of 1.5 million tons of wheat, the largest of which are from Bangladesh, Egypt, Jamaica and others.

- According to the forecast of Oil World, the world's total biodiesel production will reach a record 48.4 million tons in 2022 (48.3 in 2021). The United States will produce 9.3 million tons of biodiesel (8.5). Biodiesel production is projected to reach 1.8 million tons in Argentina (1.7), 0.7 million tons in the EU (0.41), 5.31 million tons in Brazil (5.91), 1.75 million tons in Singapore (1.8),1.5 million tons in Thailand (1.6) and 0.58 million tons in Canada (0.67).
