Grain Highlights 12.04.2023

According to SovEcon's forecast, wheat exports from Russia will reach 4.2-4.5 million tons in April. In April 2020 alone, exports were over 5 million tons.

- Over the period April 1-10, 2,196 million tons of grain were exported from Russia (2.6 times more than the previous year). Wheat exports were 1.95 million tons (649,700), corn exports were 168,700 tons (+32.1%) and barley exports reached 76,200 tons (+1.5 times).

- From the beginning of the season to 12/04/2023, 39.164 million tons of cereals were exported from Ukraine, including 1.188 million tons in April. 13.477 million tons of wheat (479,000), 2.322 million tons of barley (46,000), 23.043 million tons of corn (661,000) were exported.

- According to data from FranceAgriMer, as of 04/03/2023, 2% of the areas planned for corn were sown in France (3% a year earlier). 93% of soft wheat crops are in good and excellent condition (94% a week earlier and 92% a year earlier).

- Chicago commodity funds were net buyers of 5,000 soybean contracts and net sellers of 2,000 corn and 4,000 wheat contracts yesterday.

- Safras&Mercado have raised their forecast for the 2022/23 soybean production in Brazil by 2.7 million tons to 155.1 million tons (+29.5 million tons compared to 2021/22). Farmers sold 44% of their crops (+9% for the month and 60% a year earlier). 4% of the new crop has been sold (15% on average for the last 5 years).

- Australia has stopped the procedure of filing a complaint against China in the World Trade Association related to the export of barley. Thus, after three years, the two countries have free trade relations again.

- On 11/04/2023, Jordan held a tedner for the purchase of 120,000 tons of durum milling wheat of any origin. 60,000 tons of wheat were purchased at a price of 303.33 USD/ton C&F and delivery within September 16 – 30.
