- In January, Russia exported 5.4 million tons of grain (4.5 million more than four years ago), including 4 million tons of wheat (an increase of 0.2 million). Since the beginning of the season, grain exports have reached 40.2 million tons, with wheat accounting for 33.3 million tons.
- The European Commission has stated that, considering the farmers' protests, the draft law limiting pesticide use will be reconsidered. The initial plan aimed to reduce pesticide consumption by 50% by 2030.
- Spot prices for soybean oil in South America fell below 800 USD/ton for the first time since September 2020. As of February 2, 2024, the Argentine FOB Up River price was 792.12 USD/ton, the lowest since September 11, 2020. The FOB Paranagua price was 798.94 USD/ton (-8.4%), the lowest since September 1, 2020.
- According to Conab data as of February 3, 2024, in Brazil, 20% of the planned areas for second corn crop have been sown (an increase of 10% for the week and 11% compared to the previous year). The progress is attributed to dry weather in Mato Grosso. First corn crop has been harvested on 14% of the areas (9% more than the previous year).
- In early February, soybean planting in Argentina was completed, covering 17.3 million hectares, according to data from the Grain Exchange in Buenos Aires. 36% of the crops are in good or excellent condition (44% the previous week and 14% the previous year), 50% are in satisfactory condition (48% and 44%), and 14% are in poor or very poor condition (8% and 42%).
- DASAGRO estimates that soybean harvesting for the first crop in Paraguay reached 50% by early February, with an average yield of 3.5 tons per hectare. The total soybean production for 2023/24 in Paraguay is expected to reach 10.6 million tons. Planting for the second crop of soybeans and corn is currently underway. With favorable conditions, the overall soybean production in Paraguay for 2023/24 is projected to reach 11.5 million tons.
- Iran has announced a tender to purchase 120,000 tons of feed barley and 120,000 tons of soymeal with delivery within March-April. Barley can be sourced from the Black Sea region, Kazakhstan, or the EU, while soymeal can come from Argentina or Brazil.
- Tunisia has announced a tender to purchase 100,000 tons of durum wheat of unspecified origin. In the previous tender, 75,000 tons of durum wheat were purchased at prices ranging from 444.89 to 446.49 USD/ton, with delivery scheduled for January to March.
