- From January 1 to March 10, 2024, 63,600 tons of sunseed oil were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk (compared to 35,600 tons the previous year). Three shipments totaling 39,600 tons of oil were sent to India. According to USDA, sunseed oil exports from Russia in 2023/24 are expected to be 4.3 million tons (+0.2 compared to 2022/23). Rusagro anticipates sunseed oil production in the range of 7.3–7.5 million tons for the season, with exports reaching 4.7–4.9 million tons.
- In January, sunseed oil exports from Russia to India were 125,000 tons, which is 2.6 times more than in January 2023. The total export to India for the entire 2023 was 930,000 tons.
- According to data from the Canadian Grain Commission, from the beginning of the season until March 3, 2024, Canada exported 14.7 million tons of wheat (-3% compared to the previous season), including 1.9 million tons of durum (-41%). Barley exports were 1.2 million tons (-45%), and corn exports were 0.6 million tons (-33%). Canola exports amounted to 3.2 million tons (+8%).
- According to an estimate by Ciara-CEC in January, soybean processing in Argentina reached 2.1 million tons (+10.5% compared to December and above the level of January 2023). During the month, the capacity utilization of processing facilities in the country was 36% (compared to 32% the previous year). Sunseed processing reached 218,000 tons, the highest level in the last five months.
- Authorities in India forecast a wheat production of 112 million tons in 2023/24 (+1.3% compared to 2022/23). However, private analysts expect that the new production may be below the level of the previous one. USDA estimates the ending stocks of wheat for the current season at 9 million tons, the lowest figure since 2007/08.
