Grain Highlights 05.06.2024

StoneX has lowered its forecast for the 2023/24 corn production in Brazil to 121.75 million tons (from 125.6 in the previous estimate), with the reduction attributed to the second corn production.

- The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has maintained its forecast for the country's grain production in 2024/25 at 132 million tons and exports at 60 million tons.

- In May, Ukraine exported 714,300 tons of sunseed oil (+14% compared to April). This is the highest level since November 2020. The largest customers are India and Spain, followed by Turkey and Romania.

- Serbian authorities plan for the country to stockpile wheat (150,000 tons have already been purchased for reserve), gasoline, diesel fuel, and gas.

- In April, soybean processing in the United States reached 4.77 million tons (-14% compared to March and -6% compared to April 2023), which is the lowest level in the past seven months. Soybean stocks decreased by 5.9% during the month and by 12.2% compared to May 2023.

- According to Conab, as of June 2, 2024, 98% of the soybean areas in Brazil have been harvested for the 2023/24 crop.

- StoneX has lowered its forecast for the 2023/24 corn production in Brazil to 121.75 million tons (from 125.6 in the previous estimate), with the reduction attributed to the second corn production. The second corn production is expected to reach 93.5 million tons (-3.9%) with an average yield of 5.42 tons/hectare (5.67). The soybean production is projected to reach 149 million tons (from 150.8).

- On June 4, 2024, the price of palm oil on the Kuala Lumpur Commodity Exchange in Malaysia dropped by 4% for the day. This was pressured by a decline in soyoil prices in Chicago by 11.4 USD/ton to 961.7 USD/ton.

- On June 4, 2024, Algeria purchased 840,000 tons of soft wheat of any origin at an average price of 279 USD/ton C&F, with delivery in August for Europe and July for South America or Australia.
