- In the week starting from October 23, 2024, the export tax on Russian wheat will be 2,121 rubles/ton (1,872 a week earlier). The export tax on barley will be 389.7 rubles/ton (392.8), and the export tax on corn will be 2,671.7 rubles/ton (2,827.2).
- The export of grain from Russia to Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Qatar, Kuwait, South Korea, Pakistan, India, and Iraq will be conducted without intermediaries. This decision was made by the Russian government and the Union of Grain Exporters.
- As of October 17, 2024, Ukraine harvested 9.428 million hectares of grain crops (85% of all sown areas, or 11.116 million), collecting 42.806 million tons of grain with an average yield of 4.54 tons/hectare. Corn has been harvested from 59% of the areas, yielding 13.187 million tons with an average yield of 5.57 tons/hectare. Sunseed has been harvested from 91% of the areas, producing 9.28 million tons with an average yield of 4.52 tons/hectare, and soybeans have been harvested on 88% of the areas, yielding 5.188 million tons with a yield of 2.22 tons/hectare. Corn is expected to yield 24 million tons, and sunseed production is almost certain to reach 10.2 million tons.
- As of October 14, 2024, more than 1 million hectares in Ukraine have been sown with rapeseed, or 91% of the planned areas (compared to 1.1 million by this date in 2023). Winter wheat has been sown on 3.4 million hectares (75% compared to 3 million last year), and winter barley on 331,700 hectares (52% compared to 260,000).
- Kazakhstan and Egypt are negotiating terms for wheat deliveries from the Asian country to the African one. They are working on overcoming obstacles to participating in GASC tenders, discussing the potential supply of up to 400,000 tons of wheat.
- According to an analysis by the national Chinese monitoring system, the domestic market for soymeal continues to show a downward trend. In the first half of October, the price of the product fell by 4%. In September, soybean imports to China reached 11.37 million tons, 6.3% less than in October but 59% more than in September 2023. From January to September, imports totaled 81.85 million tons (+8.1%). The market for the product is currently considered low.
- IGC forecasts the global soybean production for 2024/25 to be 421 million tons (+2 compared to September and 395 in 2023/24). Consumption is expected to be 406 million tons (406 and 386), with ending soybeanstocks at 86 million tons (82 and 71). Global soybean trade is projected to reach 179 million tons (+1 compared to September).
- IGC maintains its forecast for global wheat and corn productions in 2024/25 in its October report. Wheat production is expected to be 798 million tons, with Kazakhstan’s wheat production forecast raised by 1 million tons to 17 million tons, Australia’s wheat production estimate reduced by 0.5 million tons to 31.3 million tons, and Argentina’s wheat production forecast reduced by 0.3 million tons to 18.1 million tons. The global corn production forecast remains at 1,224 million tons, with increases in the United States and India, and decreases in Russia and Egypt.
