- In 2024/25, India’s imports of vegetable oils are expected to fall to 15 million tons due to strong oilseed productions. In 2023/24, India imported 16 million tons of oils. Palm oil imports for 2023/24 were 9.2 million tons (down from 9.8 million in 2022/23), making up 60% of total oil imports. Sunseed oil imports are projected to increase to 3.5 million tons (from 2.9 million).
- In October, China’s soybean imports reached 8.09 million tons, the highest level in four years, up 56% from October 2023. From January to October, imports totaled 89.94 million tons, an 11.2% increase from the previous year. China is likely to set a record for total soybean imports in 2024, surpassing the previous record of 100.31 million tons set in 2020. The potential new term of Trump is causing concern among Chinese importers, who are purchasing in advance to avoid possible new tariffs between the U.S. and China.
