FAS USDA: Turkey increases wheat import up to 5 mln tons

FAS USDA predicts that Turkey will increase wheat import up to 5 mln tons during the current season (June – July). Import went down to 4.382 mln tons of wheat in the previous season, which is much lower than usual. This was due to the record yield.

Turkey imported 2.2 mln tons of wheat during the first half of the season, including 0.5 mln tons of hard wheat. Russia remains the main supplier with 1.3 mln tons, followed by Mexico with 283,000 tons, Canada with 116,000 tons and Kazakhstan with 55,000 tons.

The export of wheat and wheat processing products remain high – 5.6 mln tons. 1.8 mln tons of wheat flour were exported from the country during the first half of the season, which is 17% higher than the corresponding period of the previous year. The export of wheat processing products reached 5.534 mln tons last year.
