USA: Winter wheat crops not as good as last year

Latest USDA analysts report rates the condition of winter wheat crops in the main US producer states as improving compared with the end of December.

33% of winter wheat crops in Oklahoma are in a good or excellent condition on January 29, 2017 compared with 25% at the end of December and 74% at the end of January 2016. In Kansas, 44% of the crops (44% and 55%) are in a good or excellent condition.

Index raise registered in the states of Montana and South Dakota while indices dropped in Colorado and Texas.

Reports from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada include forecasts for barley harvest for the first time in 2017. Barley areas will be 25 mln decares compared with 26 mln decares back in 2016. If average production is achieved, barley yield will be 8.0 mln tons (-0.8). Canada is the sixth biggest wheat exporter worldwide and export will reach 1.9 mln tons in the current season compared with 2.0 mln tons in 2015 – 2016.
