Brazil increases its forecast for wheat import in the new season

Brazil increases its forecast for wheat import in the new season to nearly record levels

In 2017 – 2018 the country will import 7 million tonnes of wheat, which is by 800,000 tonnes more than the previous season and only 20,000 tonnes less than the record reached in 2012 - 2013, according to Conab.

Import growth is due to the production decline in 2017, that decreases by 23% down to 5.21 million tonnes.

The forecast for the wheat  import in Brazil in 2016 - 2017 is also increased by 360,000 tonnes up to 6.92 million tonnes.

In the current season the consumption of wheat in the country is increased by 400,000 tonnes up to 11.3 million tonnes. In the new season there may be a minimal decline.
