Soybean crop in Uruguay will rise by 50% in 2016 – 2017

According to forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture of the country, in 2016 – 2017 soybean crop will reach 3.3 million tonnes - by 51% more than the previous year.

Areas under soybean cultivation in the country will amount to 1.1 million hectares, incl. 741,000 hectares of first crop and 362,000 hectares of second crop. The sowing of the second crop of soybeans begins immediately after the harvest of the barley.

Last year's average soybean yield in Uruguay reached 43.8 bushels / acre, which is 56% more than 2015-2016. According to the forecast, the growth of areas and soybean crop in the country will continue in 2017 - 2018.
