Canada: areas under canola cultivation are more than these under wheat cultivation for first time

According to Statistics Canada, sowing of grain and oil crops in Canada is completed. Areas under canola cultivation amount to 9.23 million hectares, by 12% more than 2016.

For the first time in history, canola areas exceed those sown with wheat, that decline by 3.7 % to 9.07 million hectares.

In Saskatchewan, canola areas increased by 13.6% to 5.1 million hectares, and in Alberta to 2.79 million hectares (+ 16.5%).

Despite the growth of areas, canola crop may decrease due to late sowing and yield decline.
