The EU lowers its forecast for corn crop but raises the forecast for its import

Warm and dry weather in the southern parts of the EU gives the pitch for lowering the forecasts for corn production in 2017 – 2018.

A month earlier, the forecast was at 62.1 million tonnes, and now it is down to 58.4 million tonnes - a forecast by the European Commission. This is the lowest indicator from 2012-2013 until now.

The EU corn deficit will be covered by import - up to 15.3 million tonnes as of the June forecast of 12.3 million tonnes. This is above the import in 2016 - 2017 - 12.9 million tonnes and above the 2007 - 2008 crop - 15.1 million tonnes.

Crop of soft wheat is reduced by 138.9 million tonnes to 138.6 million tonnes at 134 million tonnes in 2016.

The harvest of barley is increased by 0.5 million tonnes to 57.5 million tonnes and that of rapeseed has dropped to 21.7 million tonnes from 21.6 million tonnes.
