Wheat harvest in Germany lags behind schedule

Wheat harvest in Germany lags behind schedule and up to date 40-50% of the areas are to be harvested.

Lagging is due to prolonged precipitation in the northern parts of the country.

The Cooperatives Association predicts a 0.5 % reduction in wheat crops compared to 2016, to 24.34 million tonnes at 25.39 million tonnes in the July forecast.

The volume will be sufficient to meet the demand for millers’ enterprises during the year amounting to 8 million tonnes of wheat, but the export potential will be limited.

It is emphasized that the quality of the wheat is low.
