Demand for food oils in the country is significantly higher than production, that amounts to 60% of the global imports.
In 2016 - 2017 demand for oil in India is 24 million tonnes - 9 million tonnes of domestic production and 15 million tonnes of import.
In 2017 Indian oil crops are 34 million tonnes at 24 million tonnes in 2007. Thanks to the state support it is expected in 2022 the crop of oil crops to reach 42 million tonnes and the share of import to decrease to 55% of total global import.
Problems for the growth of production are low-grade seeds, high processing costs, and areas with risky status that are subject to many rainfall over the season.
